Back from the brink: The NARGC restoration project
Sadly, the Grey Partridge almost disappeared from Ireland. Changes in their habitats made it very difficult for them to survive. But don't worry, there's good news! The NARGC Restoration Project is working tirelessly to bring these wonderful birds back. Teams are creating safe places for them to live, nest, and find food, helping their numbers grow once again.

Grey Partridges are amazing parents!
- Egg laying: The female lays a huge number of eggs, usually between 10 and 20, in a cosy nest on the ground. These nests are often hidden in tall grass or hedgerows to keep the eggs safe.
- Roles of male and female: While the female sits on the eggs to keep them warm, both parents work together after the chicks hatch. They protect their little ones fiercely, teach them how to find food, and guide them as they grow. They are a true team!
Food & diet: Why insects are so important!
Adult Grey Partridges mainly enjoy a diet of seeds and greens, like tasty plants they find in the fields. But for their babies, it's a different story!

Newborn Grey Partridge chicks need lots of insects to grow strong and healthy. Beetles, bugs, and caterpillars are like superfood for them, helping them develop their feathers and survive their first few weeks of life. This is why healthy insect populations are so important for Grey Partridges!
