Our colouring competition is an exciting way to discover the fascinating world of the grey partridge.
Pick your colours, bring these birds to life on paper, and learn about their unique habitat and behaviours.
How to Enter
1. Download the pictures
Download the Grey Partridge colouring picture and entry form from our Resource Section.
2. Learn about the Grey Partridge
Use our Resource Section to deliver a short lesson and help children learn about the Grey Partridge and why this important native bird needs our help.
3. Get colouring!
Colour the Grey Partridge picture as realistically as you can. Take your time and look carefully at the bird’s natural colours and markings.
4. Send us your entry
Complete the entry form and return your finished picture and entry form by 13 November 2026 to the address on the entry form.
Alternatively, completed pictures and entry forms can be scanned and emailed to youthofficer@nargc.ie
Winners will be announced in December 2026.
A special experience for our winners
Visits to Grey Partridge conservation projects will be organised for the winners in spring 2027, giving them an opportunity to see conservation work in action.
Who can enter?
The competition is open to all children in Ireland. Children can enter through their school or directly from home with the help of a parent or guardian.
Win Prizes for your School!
Imagine winning prizes for your school that include bird boxes, wildlife sets and outdoor wildlife signs.
These prizes will help teachers create a vibrant wildlife haven, making your school a great place for biodiversity. This can even help support your school's biodiversity and Green Flag journey.
Individual category winners will receive a visit to one of our grey partridge restoration sites, where you’ll see these birds up close and learn from our dedicated members and volunteers.
Winners will also receive NARGC merchandise, a certificate and a framed copy of their winning artwork.
The Family Life of the Grey Partridge
Did you know that Grey Partridges are excellent parents?
During the breeding season, the male and female form a strong partnership. After the chicks hatch, both parents help to protect them, guide them and teach them how to find food. The male, known as the cock, plays an especially active role in caring for the family.
